Keep track of your devices with Absolute & Win7

Absolute® Software recently announced its support for Windows 7 and its Sensor and Location platform — good news for HP customers who currently use or plan to take advantage of Absolute’s Computrace® technology, which is embedded in the firmware of many HP notebooks.

Computrace is an IT asset management and computer security solution which utilizes several location determination methodologies, including GPS and Wi-Fi triangulation, to offer unprecedented capabilities for tracking and managing mobile computers. Geolocation capabilities allow you to see both the current and historical locations of your computers or handsets plotted on an internet map. This functionality is particularly useful in locating missing or drifting devices. It is also used by the Absolute Theft Recovery Team to aid in the investigation and recovery of stolen computers.

With the Sensor and Location API in Windows 7, Absolute has harnessed a powerful new technology which provides the ability to simplify the geolocation tracking of Windows-based computers, while greatly reducing the time it takes to deliver new solutions to market. Now you can see the GPS location of your devices running Windows 7 in the Absolute Software customer portal. You can also immediately use any Windows Sensor and Location API-compliant device or technology (such as geo-resolution or Wi-Fi triangulation) once the appropriate provider has been installed.

Read the press release or visit the Absolute Software website. You may also want to read the ABT MS Windows 7 Datasheet.
